You should also look for models that run efficiently and are easy to keep clean. Many consumer services provide product ratings that offer an independent overview of how each model stacks up.
Once you have seen the reliability ratings, begin to consider exteriors. Some manufacturers offer models with special finishes that make fingerprints less visible and require less daily cleaning. If you are considering a refrigerator with a water dispenser, look for a model with the water filter in the base grille, where it is easy to reach and replace. Some models also have water filter status lights that will tell you when it's time to change the filter.
